Frequently Asked Questions
Where is McKinlay? McKinlay is a small town in North West Queensland. Crocodile Dundee was filmed out of our local pub!
Is all beef raised on your property? Yes*, all animals have been born and raised on our property. As we own every animal from birth we can ensure they have been raised ethically and have 100% traceability. For more information go to the Our Animals section. *To ensure consistent supply, we do sometimes partner with other reputable producers who provide us with high quality beef and lamb. If you have any questions please email.
Are your cattle grass fed? Yes! They spend their entire lives eating our native pastures, there is no grain used to fatten them like in feedlots which provide the majority of beef available at supermarkets. We source our lamb from other producers, mainly on the darling downs.
Is grass fed beef better? Grass fed beef is better for you and for the environment. There are many research papers and articles that have been published on the many health benefits of grass fed over grain finished cattle. These include, lower in overall fats, yet higher in good fats such as Omega 3 and the anti-cancer fat CLA as well as other antioxidants. As none of our animals have been fed grain, no tractors have turned a wheel, resulting in a environmentally cleaner product. Feeding grain to cattle also significantly increases the amount of water needed to produce beef.
Is your meat Hormone free, antibiotic free, gluten free? Yes to everything mentioned! (Only product not GF is Crumb steak). Our cattle have never been treated with anything other than necessary antibiotic use by our Vet Hannah to ensure the welfare of the animal.
Are we organic? The short answer is no. The long answer is that nothing goes into our animals that is not directly for their benefit. There are no growth promotants. We give them pain relief and antibiotics when they are sick. Unlike many other regions, especially closer to the coast, we have no problems with parasites so do not need to treat our cattle for worms or external parasites.
Have any trees been cleared to produce the beef in your boxes? No, our property is naturally open country, grassed with native pastures, such as Mitchell and Flinders grass.
Where is the meat butchered? The meat is butchered in Toowoomba. We have a great relationship with our butcher and he is very keen to help any way he can. If you have any requests please let us know.
Is the meat frozen or fresh? This is dependant on where you live. Everywhere is delivered fresh except for Mt Isa & Cloncurry, which sometimes needs to be frozen for the journey up there! Please email us for more information. It will have been hung to ensure tenderness, before being cryovaced into portion sized packaging.
How do I store my meat? Depending on your freezer space you may want to freeze some of the snags, mince and roasts when you first receive the packs. The cryovaced steaks will be fine to leave in your fridge to continue tenderizing for up to 4 weeks and then they may need to go into the freezer if you haven’t eaten them yet!
Is the packaging recyclable? The box the meat is delivered to you in is made from 95% recyclable material. They are also biodegradable and we are happy to re-use your boxes at your next delivery!
How does delivery work? We will pre arrange a delivery time with you prior to delivery. Deliveries are normally in the afternoon/evening, direct to your door (or to your office if you take an esky). If you are not able to take delivery, your box will be left in a safe spot and we will call you to tell you your delivery has been made. The meat comes in an insulated box that only holds its cool for a limited time. It will be your responsibility to return home and refrigerate the product as soon as possible.
